2004- State Award- Best Actor-Kaazcha

2004 was an eventfull year for Mammootty as an actor. After a gap of ten long years, Mammootty was selected for the best actor award given by the Kerala State Government for his role in Kaazcha directed by the new comer Blessy, Kaazcha portrays the story of a young boy who comes to Kerala after he has lost everyone and everything in the Gujarat earthquake. The re he meets Madhavan ,played by Mammootty, who is a small time filmoperator in village festivals and fairs. The rest of the story deals with how Madhavan takes care of the orphan boy and how the government, the courts and the system cannot understand the simple human emotion of love. Mammootty’s portrayad of Madhavan is one of his best roles ever, we can see the actor at his vintage best. The writer of this column saw the movie in Ernakulam-Kerala DTS and came out crying only to realize that others who were there watching the movie were all in tears, sharing the pain of Madhavan.
